The Stone House, also known as The Father’s House is designed by Qingyun Ma especially for his father. The construction started in 1993 and had taken 11 years to complete.
Set in a very unique and exceptional site at a confluence of the Qinling Mountain, Bahe River, and Bailuyuan Plateau, it was built to combine modern comfort and local heritage in a tranquil seclusion. The source of building materials are the rocks which got pulled down by the river from the mountains through time. The water and the stone correlate in the sense that the stone’s size, color and level of perturbation are all shaped by the passing water. The Stone House has shown a collision between rough, organic materials with a highly regulated spare form. This in order gives the Stone House an ephemeral quality encased in distinctly modern formalism.
